An official reception and presentation of Street Racket by the founders was held at the residence of the Swiss consul general in Cape Town at the splendid ocean view drive. A heartfelt thank you to the 40 invited guests for coming and for supporting us to increase our impact. Our very special thanks to the Ambassador for attending the event, trying out Street Racket in person with some of the guests and for putting us in touch with other ambassadors around the world who can help to promote our Swiss idea in their respective countries of work. We feel honoured and we appreciate this opportunity very much! Co-founders Rahel and Marcel Straub were introduced by the consul general and then welcomed the guests at the residence and introduced them to the world of Street Racket. They explained the many positive aspects of this movement game for all, the goals of the mission in South Africa, the strategy on how to implement the concept (train the trainers, recruit instructors and licensees, conduct introductionary workshops), and the possibilities for collaborations. After taking the attentive listeners through some of the most popular game forms in theory it was time to try them out on the lawn overlooking the waterfont and robben island, with the majestic lion's head in the background (despite the daramatic draught in the area the lawn was as green as it was artificial). Among the guests were representatives for sports, social and cultural development in the cape area as well as decision makers of foundations and sports federations (Tennis South Africa among others) and racket sport professionals. Many of the participants will come together again in a week for a practical workshop with the Street Racket team at the tennis development centre and bring their colleagues along. As a follow up those who want to take things further can become official instructors in another 2 hour session.
Combined, this group of highly trained, well connected and motivated people will create another big push in the right direction - so Street Racket can reach out to all and have a massive impact at very little costs!
